Roni Gibson
Multidisciplinary Designer
Designing Futures. Building Community. Shaping Representation.
Veronica “Roni” Gibson is a multidisciplinary designer, creative director, and educator committed to reshaping the landscape of design through equity, culture, and access.

With nearly a decade of experience in the industry, Roni has led campaigns and activations that merge culture with clarity. As Senior Designer at Amare Global, she spearheaded global visual strategies for events like AWS: reInvent and London Tech Week, bringing modern, human-centered design to large-scale brand experiences. As Creative Director for the She Said Foundation, she directed the visual identity and immersive environment of the annual She Said Conference at 713 Music Hall, crafting an experience that celebrated women, leadership, and possibility.
Beyond her creative practice, Roni serves as an Assistant Professor of Graphic Design at Sam Houston State University, where she teaches courses in typography, brand identity, UI/UX, and professional practice. Her classroom philosophy merges design theory with industry relevance, empowering students to develop both technical fluency and creative confidence.
As the co-founder of Black Design Houston (BDH), Roni is deeply committed to community building and creative advocacy. Through BDH’s programming, she cultivates spaces that connect Black designers, students, and industry leaders. Her work ensures that design is not only a profession but also a pathway to visibility and empowerment.
Her ongoing research and forthcoming book, “Into the Blackscape,” expands her graduate thesis from Pratt Institute into a critical exploration of representation, systemic barriers, and access within design academia and the broader creative industry. At her core, Roni is a connector of people, ideas, and opportunity. Her work lives at the intersection of creativity, education, and advocacy, with one mission at heart: to make design a place where everyone belongs.
